Mormon Cavalry Departed for Adam-ondi-Ahman

15–16 October 1838

Brigadier General Alexander Doniphan arrived in Far West, Caldwell County, Missouri, and advised Latter-day Saints to prepare to defend themselves; After learning that anti-Mormon vigilantes intended to attack Latter-day Saints at Adam-ondi-Ahman, JS delivered a discourse in Far West declaring the Saints would defend themselves from opposition; JS helped recruit about three hundred Latter-day Saint men and joined them on their march to Daviess County, Missouri; JS and Mormon cavalry departed Far West for Adam-ondi-Ahman, Daviess County.
