Mormon Offensive in Daviess County

18–21 October 1838

Perceiving that civil and militia authorities would not uphold the law, Mormon vigilantes launched preemptive strikes at anti-Mormon rendezvous points, burning buildings owned or used by anti-Mormons and others, confiscating goods as wartime appropriations, seizing a cannon intended to be used against Saints, and expelling opponents and others from Daviess County, Missouri.
