To All to Whom these Presents shall come—Greeting:
KNOW YE, That Joseph Smith having been duly elected to the office of Justice of the Peace for Mayor of the City of in the county of I, , Governor of the State of , for and on behalf of the People of said State, do commission him Justice of the Peace for said county, and do authorize and empower him to execute and fulfil the duties of that office according to law.
AND TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said office, with all the rights and emoluments thereunto legally appertaining, until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified to office.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Great Seal of State to be hereunto affixed. Done at , this thirteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-two and of the Independence of the , the sixty-sixth.
