The People of the State of , To the of said , GREETING:
We command you to summon Joseph Smith Jr <> if to be found in your , personally to be and appear before the Circuit Court of said [blank] , at the Court House, in , on the fourth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one, to testify, and the truth to speak, in relation to a certain matter in controversy, now depending in the said Court, between Nicholas Singl[e]y plaintiffs, and defendants, at the instance of the said , laying aside all pretences and excuses whatsoever, under penalty of what the law directs. And make due return of this writ, and of the manner in which you execute the same.
