List of Council Members • 31 May 1844

Editorial Note
entered into the record a list of the names and birthdays of each council member as the council was constituted following the 25 April 1844 meeting, when the final two members appointed during JS’s lifetime were enrolled. At the organizational meeting of the council on 11 March 1844, it was determined that council members should be seated and vote in order of their ages. Clayton thus listed JS, as standing chairman, first, followed by the council members according to their age. He included himself, as clerk, and , as recorder, at the end of the list. On 18 April, Clayton had recorded a list of council members—at that time fifty members plus Clayton and Richards—in similar order in his journal, along with their ages. Probably between 25 April and 3 May, Clayton created a similar list on a loose sheet of paper that included all fifty-two members of the council as well as Clayton and Richards. In the list below, he additionally recorded birthdates, which allowed him to slightly refine the order of the men.

The following is a list of the names of the members of this council with their Ages and station in the Council according to age, as they stood at the adjournment in May 1844—
