September 12, 1837— Upon the oath of Joseph Smith, jr. granted <​issued​> a warrant for the said Abram Ritch, to , constable, which was returned on the 14th with the body of the defendant. On application of the complainant granted subpoenas for Daniel Kerr, Jonathan Goldsmith, John Featherlee, <​Joel Taylor​> , George Pease, David Kingsley, Benjamin Adams, and Joel Bartholomew.
The parties being ready, the court was called, the defendand [defendant] pleaded “Not guilty, to the charge, and the cause adjourned to one part of the building recently occupied by Boynton, Johnson & Co. as a Dry-Gods Goods Store. John Featherlee, , Joseph Smith, jr. Joel Taylor, , George Pease, <​and​> Orrin Blossom were sworn and examind on <​the​> part of the , the proofs and allegations were heard, and it is considered by me, that the charge is not made out against said Abram Ritch, and that he go hence without day
