<​November 8​> Friday 8. we started from . having concluded to continue on the journey, on account of ’s health which continued quite poor— we pursued our journey through Indiana towards , Ohio. The travelling was bad and our progress slow.

About this time we had arrived near , when the roads were so bad, ’s health so poor, and the time so fast spending, when it was necessary for the Committee to be in , that I started in the stage with , on the most expeditious route to . leaving , , and to come on at their leasure in the Carriage.

<​22​> and company went to Fairport, where they waited for a Steam Boat until Tuesday— Elder and Company, sold their horses and carriage at and went on to by the Canal, Railway, and Steam Boats, from , wrote me on [HC 4:21] the 22nd. directed to , from which I quote the following
“The Churches in these parts are prospering greatly and are firm in the faith and increasing in numbers continually, the Church in and Brooklyn now numbers from 150 to 200 members and additions are being made every week. A General Conference was held in this on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Elders present , , , , Elders Foster, Layne, Jenks, Brown, Benedict and , Priests present were A. Everett, [blank] Birge, and [blank] Vanvelver; many branches of the Church in the region round about, were represented, several hundred members in all, and mostly increasing— great doors are opened for preaching and crowded houses are the order of the day. I have also received letters from , and from , with joyful accounts of the spread of the work of the Lord. You would now find Churches of the Saints in , in , in Brooklyn, in , in , in , in , on , and in various other places all around us— Our Meetings are now held three times every Sabbath, in Columbia Hall, Grand Street, a few days east of the Bowery, it is very central and one of the best places in the City, it will hold nearly one thousand people and is well filled with attentive hearers; Bro. Winchester has a good hall well fitted up in where stated meetings are held. [p. 973]
