as soon [a]s we goto <​arrived in the ​> wrote would see <​requested him call​> <​the​> Municipal Court <​came​> together [a]s soon [a]s they were assembled <​when​> they were <​I​> told <​them​> that a <​the​> Writ <​of​> <​ granted by <​the​> master <​in​> at ​> was made returnable <​to​> them nearest court <​having​> jurisdiction <​&​> you r [are] that Court a request was made <​of​> <​to​> return <​the​> writ who refused when>
<​June 30​> When I went to dinner with my family & were placed at the head of the Table with <​about 50 of​> my friends <​and was served with the best that the table afforded by my , the very woman they refused, to see <​allow​> me <​to see​> when they so cruelly arrested and ill treated me​> which contrasted strangely with their Trestment to me when I was first arrested by them & until my friends met me after dinner, we all repaired to the Court room when I caus signed the following Petition To the Honorable (see T&S <​“Vol 4”​> 244 <​& copy​>)
whereupon the Court issued “State of (see T&S 245 <​copy​>) Clerk” which was endorsed I (see T&S 245 & 246 <​copy​>) Secretary of State
<​ refused to submit to the writ, but submitted to the &​> when I was delivered into the hands of the of the . I told them <​Court​> I had an appointment to preach to the people & requested privilege <​from the Court, which they granted & adjourned​> and the Court gave liberty until 8 oclock tomorrow morning
at 5 pm I went to the and delivered an address to the public of which the following is a brief synopsis as reported by <​Dr.​> & .

Joseph commenced a lecture on the to many thousands, by saying, How do you do, I meet you with a heart full of gratitude to Almighty God. I am well, I am hearty & as strong as a Giant. I While I was on the road I pulled up the strongest man that could be found, then two men tried & they could not pull me up I have pulled mentally until I have pulled here
There has been a great excitement in the Country I have been cool & dispassionate through all
Thank God I am now a prisoner in the hands of the Municipal Court & not in the hands of a Missourian
It was not so much my object to tell my afflictions &c as to speak of the Habeas Corpus so that the minds of all may be corrected and know & publish that we have all power there is a secret the has all power that the Courts have given by the same authority the Legislature
I want you to hear O Israel this day if this power is not sufficient we will claim a higher power the Constitution of the & the Constitution of the
I have dragged him here by my hand & will do it again but I swear I never will deal so mildly again Be cool, be deliberate, be wise, & when you pull, do it with a sweepstakes
