General is sure to be elected if he lives— so be cautious how you vote— in case you should want any help— Had you not better put up some of your boys— to start a “Clay Club” in — so to make the matter show up right— When I spoke of you to — he told me you had been, damned bulied abused— and said when he was in power— all Citizens should be protected of their rights— Old fellow you aint know how much good I am doing you— by representing you in the right light to these great men—
Your old friend—

General Joseph Smith
