Dear Brother
I am sorry to inform you that I have <​not​> been able to obtain any employment I could have had two or three situations if I had been in possession of my testimonials to character (which I placed in the hands of but which some persons has taken out of the Mayor’s Office) I showed the testimonial of to one of the Parties & so soon as they heard of my having been at they would not employ me.
My wife’s father was taken sick in coming down the & by the time we arrived here he was in a very alarming state, as we were a week in getting down— He still continues very sick— my mother in law has also been very sick but she is recovering. I have been obliged to let my watch go for money to live upon or we might have perished— A gentleman lent me $25,00 with the privilege of redeeming it when able.
Another Gentlemen of this who visited last summer & dined with the Prophet & also with — his name is Moore
