CITY COUNCIL.
Regular Session, August 10, 1844, 10 o’clock A. M.
, Prest. Pro. Tem.
Petition of and 14 others, for opening Ann street, from Water street, to corporation line, granted.
Ordinance concerning brothels, and passed.
Semiannual Report of the attendance of members of the council, was accepted.—

P. M.—Petition of , to erect a water mill on the old site near , granted, if it interfere with no others rights and privileges.
The petition of Davis McOlney and 20 others for the immediate relief of the wants of the police was answered by a subscription from those present, mostly councillors. | $45 00 |
Councillors , , and Aldermen , and relinquished their pay as members of the council.
, , and relinquished $10 cash, of their pay.
Councillor was elected Mayor.
Sworn and took his seat, as prest. of council.
The police was instituted on the petitions of the people, and it was proposed by the council that the subscription which had been commenced for the relief of the police, be circulated in the different wards.
An ordinance reglating fees, 3 fines passed.
nominated , for Mayor’s clerk, sanctioned unanimously.
Resignation of , as alderman of the , accepted.
The acting assessor and collectors, of the different wards of the for 1843, were unanimously re-elected and instructed to proceed without delay to value the property of the , and assess a tax of one half per centum, for the year 1844. [p. [3]]
